FOM explores 'health' and 'energy'
During the first half of 2006, FOM explored the possibilities for challenging fundamental research within the societally important themes of 'health' and 'energy'. With these explorations FOM wants to contribute to a better positioning of physics within our society.
The key question for the explorations was:
"For which subjects within these themes inspired by questions from society, industry and/or other scientific areas can one or more multidisciplinary research programmes be formulated with a substantial fundamental physics research problem and/or a significant technical physics challenge?"
Two exploratory committees took up the challenge. Each has now written a report. Both reports can be downloaded from the top of this page. FOM hopes that these reports will inspire many researchers to submit proposals for new FOM programmes. Such proposals can be submitted to either the Vrije programma's or the Industrial Partnership Programmes.
