Working at FOM

Physics research of world-class excellence and knowledge transfer to business and society
These are the key areas in which the Foundation for Fundamental Research on Matter (FOM) is focussing its efforts. Through taking a supportive and coordinating role, FOM is working on the future of physics research in the Netherlands.

With funding from NWO, the national government and the European Union and with support from corporate sponsors, FOM develops and funds challenging research programmes and projects. FOM employs circa 1050 people, comprised of some 90 permanent academic staff, 160 postdocs, 430 PhD students and over 360 technicians and other staff. The research is conducted in three institutes and some 180 university-based teams, spread over 11 Dutch universities. In total, staff produce approximately 60 PhD dissertations and 1100 scientific articles a year.
