The Foundation for Fundamental Research on Matter funds and carries out physics research in the Netherlands. From an organisational viewpoint, the research takes place at two types of locations: institutes and research groups at universities. Further information about the institutes can be found under the section
FOM institutes.
To facilitate the management of developments in Dutch physics, FOM's Executive Board has divided FOM's sphere of activities into seven research fields. A research field is sometimes referred to as a subfield. Further information about this can be found under the section
Research fields.
About 65 percent of FOM's research is carried out within research programmes. FOM has divided its research programmes into two categories. This is all described under the section
Research programmes.
How FOM funds research is detailed in the section
Research grants. Here you can also find out which funding rounds are open for applications.
Finally, one of FOM's objectives is to initiate, help manage, and grant access to facilities for researchers from the Netherlands and abroad. Information about these national facilities can be found under the section
