Research
The vibrant Department of Bionanoscience focuses on research at the interface between nanoscience, synthetic biology, and cell biology. It studies single cells in all their complexity down to the molecular level, from both fundamental scientific and application points of view. The department operates as part of the Kavli Institute of Nanoscience at the Faculty of Applied Sciences, occupies a leading international position, and is housed in a new, state-of-the-art research building. The Nynke Dekker lab encompasses approximately twenty scientists working on the biophysics and biochemistry of molecular machines involved in genome processing. You will be part of this group and will interact actively with current members.

Job description
In this project you will take on the exciting challenge of understanding the functioning of eukaryotic replisomes at the single-molecule level. We are looking to hire a candidate with a quantitative background who is keen to develop in-depth biological understanding and explore molecular mechanisms. The successful candidate will utilise our high-throughput single-molecule force spectroscopy and fluorescence imaging systems to explore the biophysics of the eukaryotic replisome. He/she will also be involved in the purification and labelling of component proteins. The candidate will be expected to analyse data using biophysical modelling, and to discuss extensively with biological collaborators.

Location
The Faculty of Applied Sciences is the largest faculty of TU Delft, with around 550 scientists, a support staff of 250 and 1,800 students. The faculty conducts fundamental, application-oriented research and offers scientific education at the bachelor, master and doctoral levels. The faculty is active in the fields of Life and Health Science & Technology, Nanoscience, Chemical Engineering, Radiation Science & Technology, and Applied Physics. Job requirements
We are looking to hire an outstanding experimentalist for this exciting project. We are in particular looking for a prospective post-doctoral researcher who is keen to spearhead a biophysical project designed to understand the mechanistic aspects of DNA replication. As a postdoctoral researcher on this project, the successful candidate will be responsible for planning and carrying out the experiments and for analysing the data. It is expected that he/she will acquire an in-depth knowledge of the background literature, contribute to the interpretation of the biophysical experiments on the basis of detailed analysis, and integrate the results with those of ongoing molecular biology and biochemistry experiments in the field. A strong background in biophysics is a necessity. A good command of spoken and written English is a must.

Conditions of employment
NWO Institutes Organisation (formerly FOM)prefers candidates who have qualifying experience (e.g. as PhD student or postdoctoral researcher) in a scientific research institute abroad.
You will be employed by the NWO Institutes Organisation (NWO-I) for a period of one year, possibly followed by an extension.  Your salary will be up to a maximum of 4,089 euro gross per month, depending on your level of experience. The salary is supplemented with a holiday allowance of 8 percent and an end-of-year bonus of 8.33 percent. The conditions of employment of NWO-I are laid down in the Collective Labour Agreement for Research Centres (Cao-Onderzoekinstellingen), more exclusive information is available at this website under Personeelsinformatie (in Dutch) or under Personnel (in English). General information about working at NWO-I can be found in the English part of this website under Personnel. The 'Job interview code' applies to this position.
