AMOLF's mission is to initiate and perform leading fundamental research on the physics of complex forms of matter, and to create new functional materials, in partnership with academia and industry.
AMOLF performs leading research on the fundamental physics and design principles of natural and man-made complex matter. Examples are nanostructured metamaterials that perfectly absorb light in solar cells, novel mechanical metamaterials with programmable properties, and living systems with adaptive functions. AMOLF leverages the understanding of complex matter to create novel functional materials, and to find new solutions to societal challenges in renewable energy, green ICT and health care.
AMOLF performs research within the following strongly connected themes:
- Living Matter;
- Designer Matter.
